About This Service

Pay Medical Bills Online

What bills may I pay online?

  • If you receive a billing statement from Kaiser Permanente for medical services, you may pay online.
  • Follow the payment instructions received for billing statements received from NON-Kaiser Permanente doctors. You may NOT pay these bills on our website.
  • You may also choose to pay using our convenient Mobile App, which allows you to pay from your iPhone or Android device. Download it from Apple or Google using the link above.

I'm listed as the guarantor. What does that mean?

  • The guarantor is the person financially responsible to pay the bill, as stated in your health plan documents. If you are the subscriber of coverage for any dependents under 18 years of age, you will be billed for their cost shares and may pay their medical bills online.
  • Non-subscriber parents may request to be billed for minor children under their care.
  • Your guarantor number is different than your member ID number. Guarantors are based on the type of service received. You may have more than one guarantor account.

Can I pay medical bills online for my spouse or domestic partner?

  • No. The amount due for another adult on your health plan won't display in your online account.
  • To pay online, your spouse or domestic partner must be registered on the Kaiser Permanente member website. Once registered, they may pay their bills online through their own online access.
  • All patients over the age of 18 will receive their own billing statements to protect patient privacy.
  • Adults with special needs may have the option for a separate guarantor billing statement to be sent to their parent or guardian.
  • You may also pay by mail, by phone, or via your bank's online bill pay service for bills your family members may have received by mail. See the back of your billing statement for more instructions regarding payment options.

Where can I find my children's medical bills online?

  • If you are the guarantor, your dependents' cost shares will be billed to you and will be visible on the Kaiser Permanente website after you sign on.
  • Only one parent or guardian can be guarantor so only one will have access to view dependent charges online.
  • When dependents turn 18, they must register for their own access to the Kaiser Permanente member website to view their charges; their information is no longer accessible by their parent or guardian.

The amount due online doesn't match my statement. Which one is correct?

  • Patients may receive notice of billing via email before their new billing statement has completed loading into the system.
  • The amount due online is the current balance due. Payments made after the balances qualified for billing or new charges that have become patient responsibility will also be reflected in the amount due, which could result in a higher or lower balance online.
  • Please wait to pay until your new billing statement is viewable online.

I'm on a payment plan. Why is the amount due online more than my payment plan amount?

  • The amount due includes your monthly payment plan amount plus any new charges that have been added to your account since the last billing cycle.
  • New charges will show separately from your payment plan on your statement.

Can I pay extra on my payment plan?

  • You can always pay more but cannot skip a payment or underpay the amount due or your payment plan balances will no longer be protected.
  • Your payment will apply first to your payment plan amount due. Any amount over paid will then apply to the oldest charges currently billing that are not part of your payment plan, and then to any balances that have aged past due, unless you are specific about where the extra payment amount should apply.
  • You must pay every month to remain current and maintain your payment agreement.
  • You may choose which account your extra payment amount applies to by paying online.

How many years of Kaiser Permanente billing statements are available online?

  • The previous 18 medical billing statements are available.

I saved a bank card in your system for pharmacy refills. Can I pay with that card?

  • Yes. If you stored a bank card for online pharmacy orders, you can use it to pay your medical bills online.
  • You may store up to 3 bank cards in our online payment system for use on both pharmacy and medical bills, or you may choose to use a card without storing it.

Do I have to store my bank card information in your system?

  • No. You may select the "use a new card for this order only" option or use the "one-time quick payment" option by choosing "Pay My Bill" from the main Kaiser Permanente website.
  • If you store your card, you may sign on and delete it from the system at any time.

I can't pay the full amount due. Can I just pay part of it now?

  • Yes. The system will process a partial payment but the full amount is due.
  • If you are unable to pay the total amount due, you may qualify for financial assistance. Please contact Patient Financial Services at 1-800-442-4014 to set up a payment plan or to see if you qualify for assistance to avoid balances aging past due and being assigned to a collection agency.

What type of payments are listed on the Past Payments page?

  • The list includes all payments made for Kaiser Permanente medical services and pharmacy orders since November 2009 when we installed our current billing and payment system. Payments are listed by all types: Copays, online payments, pre-payments, and patient payments made at the clinics, by check, by your bank's online bill pay system, or the automated phone system.
  • Payments made for minor dependents for which you were billed as guarantor are also visible.
