Miscarriage: Vacuum AspirationTopic OverviewVacuum aspiration can be used to empty the uterus after an incomplete early miscarriage . It's also called suction aspiration or dilation and aspiration. The doctor uses a hollow tube called a cannula. It is attached by tubing to a vacuum device. The cannula is passed through the vagina into the uterus.
