Having a total joint surgery requires a lot of preparation. You will need to be an active participant from the beginning of this journey and throughout your life. Your motivation to prepare for surgery and actively recover will be the key to OUR success.

Patient Responsibilities

  • Establish a committed coach to support you during recovery.
  • Make an appointment right away with your dentist to get dental clearance for surgery.
  • Be intentional about your health—this includes eating, activity, medications, and ending habits like smoking or drinking alcohol before surgery.
  • Attend all important appointments (Labs, History & Physical exam, Pre-op appointment)
  • Manage your mental wellness through the journey to surgery and through recovery.
  • Learn and discuss the information provided through our Total Joint Patient Education.
  • Secure the necessary assistive aids & equipment for recovery.
  • Make the spaces in your home safe for your recovery.
  • Ask questions if you are unsure about something—Nurse Navigators are here to support you!
  • Keep a strong recovery routine of icing, elevation, light activity and rest

  • Actively participate in Physical Therapy after surgery to gain movement & strength and return to your usual activities.
