Kaiser Permanente Washington’s care and coverage model was rated #1 overall in Washington in the 2018 eValue8 survey conducted by the Washington Health Alliance. In addition to being #1 overall, the organization’s HMO plan was rated #1 in 4 specific categories: helping members get and stay healthy, helping members manage acute conditions, helping members manage chronic conditions, and physician and hospital management. eValue8 is managed by the National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalitions, an evidence-based resource created by business coalitions and employers.1
Washington's highest-rated Medicare health plan for 2020
Kaiser Permanente Medicare Advantage health plan is rated 5 out of 5 Stars in Washington in 2020 — Medicare's highest possible rating.2 Medicare Star ratings for Medicare Advantage plans measure overall health plan performance. Ratings are based on major categories that include preventive care, chronic care, prescription drug services, customer service, and member satisfaction.
Medicare plan rated among the top in the country for quality
In the NCQA Medicare Health Insurance Plan Ratings 2019-2020, Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Northwest and Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington are among the highest-rated Medicare HMOs in the nation, and the top-rated Medicare HMOs in Washington, with ratings of 4.5 out of 5. Ratings are based on clinical quality, member satisfaction and NCQA Accreditation Survey results.3 4

In the NCQA Private Health Insurance Plan Ratings for 2019-2020, Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Northwest and Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington are the top-rated HMOs in Washington, with ratings of 4 out of 5. Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington Options, Inc. rated 3.5 out of 5. Ratings are based on clinical quality, member satisfaction, and NCQA Accrediation Survey results.4
Medical group among top-ranked physician groups in the state
With the publication of the Washington Health Alliance 2018 Community Checkup Report, our medical group has now been among the top-ranked medical groups in the state for more than a decade. The report includes results for roughly 250 medical groups and compares Washington state performance to national benchmarks on measures of access, prevention, underuse of effective care for chronic illness, and potentially avoidable care.5
Nationally recognized for diabetes care
The 2018 HEDIS® or Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set tracked the performance of nearly 400 commercial health plans against 9 diabetes measures. Kaiser Permanente Washington ranked #1 in the state and among the best performers nationally in the following: blood pressure control (#16 nationally), blood sugar control (#54 nationally), eye exams (#11 nationally), statin therapy received (#17 nationally), and medical attention for kidney damage (#25 nationally). In most other HEDIS measures, we were #2 in the state behand Kaiser Permanente Northwest, which includes Oregon and 2 Washington counties.6
Highest level of recognition for patient-centered medical home
Since 2010, all Kaiser Permanente Washington medical centers have been recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance at the highest level of recognition (Level 3) for the Patient-Centered Medical Home program. Program standards require the demonstrated use of systematic, patient-centered, coordinated care that supports access, communication, and patient involvement. Current recognition runs from March 2017 through March 2020.
